Producer
Maretu is my third favorite Vocaloid producer. His songs are 8-bit-like with a mix of rock. His songs can have really deep meanings which can leave the audience uncomfortable if you read the lyrics. He mainly uses the Miku voicebank as well and tunes her in a very unique way. Most of his songs have unique illustrations of black and white things consisting of English and kanji characters.
His current most popular songs are “Uminaoshi” and “Mind Brand” with over 13,000,000 views (February 2023).
Music Recs
Maretu’s unique style and thematic approach have earned him a dedicated following within the Vocaloid community. He stands out for his willingness to confront uncomfortable truths and emotions in his music, starkly contrasting the often upbeat, idealized narratives found in mainstream Vocaloid songs. This boldness, paired with his powerful production style, has made Maretu one of the most influential and respected figures in the darker side of Vocaloid music.
A major element of Maretu’s music is his exploration of taboo subjects, often delving into themes like mental illness, existential dread, obsession, and societal pressures. Songs like “Mind Brand,” “DEAD END,” and “Psycho” have resonated deeply with listeners for their unfiltered look into the darker sides of human experience. Maretu’s lyrics are typically cryptic and layered, leaving much open to interpretation, which invites listeners to find personal meaning in his work.
